Everyday Conversations with God

Several years ago I accepted a 4-week challenge to write the front page reflection for our Church’s weekly newsletter. Encapsulating a thought into an introduction, a central expansion of the idea and an appropriate conclusion in 200 – 300 words, is definitely a challenge.

A few months later I was again asked to write the front page reflection for an indefinite period of time.  I am not a theologian. I am just an ordinary member of the congregation. I often felt inadequate. As the weeks and months crept by however, I realized I was exploring my own faith, my own relationship with God, not in mountain-top experiences but in the ordinariness of my everyday life. God was speaking through my ordinariness to touch the lives of those who read the weekly newsletter.

A few months ago I retrieved these reflections from the back of a cupboard. As I reread them it wasn’t my words resonating with me. It was the connection I felt with God in the process of writing. The joy, comfort and hope in sensing God’s presence in the most ordinary moments of my life.

I have gathered 52 of these reflections, one for for each week of the year, into a small book titled, ‘Everyday Conversations with God’. I hope those of you who may read this book find joy, comfort and hope not in my words or my conversations with God but in your sense of God’s presence in the most ordinary moments of your life.
